Genius Team 2015

Based on feedback from prior years, we learned that we were not doing a good job of onboarding our newly hired professionals. In past years, we have hired up to 450 new professionals. Each professional needs to receive a district laptop as well as basic training on using the Keller ISD systems. Previously we held orientation sessions with up to 50 professionals in the session. These sessions often ran 2 hours or more. Since we are a continuous improvement district, we began brainstorming ways to make this process an amazing experience for our new hires. Last winter we began the process of creating a student-run Genius Bar that would run all summer to give our new hires one-on-one attention. The process was a big undertaking since we had to collaborate with technology, human resources and the campuses to get our idea off the ground. On June 8, 2015 our first four Genius Bar student workers reported to begin their training. Students learned all about the basic systems that we use in Keller ISD, computer troubleshooting and customer service skills. We gave the students scenarios to practice their customer service skills before they met our newest Keller ISD employees.

Over the course of about 10 weeks this summer, our Genius Bar became the first impression for our new teachers. The students helped about 150 teachers, enrolled more than 2,000 chromebooks, help deliver instructional materials to classrooms and help assemble chairs. After polling our new teachers, we have received extremely positive feedback and look forward to making our Genius Bar even better in 2016!
