Rational Number: A number that can be expressed as a ratio or fraction. For example, -4 can be expressed as -4/1. Another example is that 0.3 (repeating) can be expressed as 1/3.
Integer: An integer is any whole number, positive or negative, and 0. For example, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, and 3 are all integers.
Opposites: The opposite of an integer is the integer that is an equal distance from 0, but in the opposite direction. For example, 5 is the opposite of -5. Positive numbers have a negative opposite and vice versa.
Absolute Value: The absolute value of a number is its distance from 0. Distances are positive, so absolute value is positive. The absolute value of a number is written as such: |x|. So the absolute value of -12 can be written as |-12| and equals 12.
Ordering integers: Plot the given numbers on a number line and read them left (lowest negative) to right (highest positive).
