Purpose

School-wide geography competition

Content

Questions relating to the Five Themes of Geography: Location, Region, Place, Human-Environment Interaction, and Movement. The Five Themes of Geography are covered at the beginning of 6th grade Social Studies. The questions used in the bee are likely to be more specific in content.

Round 1

The first round of the GeoBee is held in all social studies classes either right before or right after winter break. Each grade level chooses its own time to host Round 1, so be sure to ask your team's social studies teacher(s) when your bee will be held. The top contestants from each grade level will move on to the Finals.

Finals

The final round of the GeoBee will be moderated by Mrs. Didech in January. The top contestants from each grade level will be notified when and where to go for this round. Other students are welcome to come watch and cheer for their classmates.

Champion

The school champion will coordinate a time and place to take the written test with Mrs. Didech in January. This test will be submitted to National Geographic for consideration.

State-Wide Competition

If the champion scores high enough on his or her written test, National Geographic will notify the school and invite the student to the state-wide competition.
