Mean: The sum of the terms divided by the number of terms. Add up all of the terms and divide by the number of terms you have added.
Median: The number in the middle of the data set. Write the terms in order from least to greatest and cross off one from each end. Repeat this until left with the middle number. If two numbers remain, find their mean.
Mode: The most common number.
Range: The largest number minus the smallest number.
Outlier: A number that does not fit the data set. For example, if the data set is 2, 100, 105, 110, 115, then 2 is an outlier. Outliers can have a big effect on the mean, but usually do not have a big effect on the median (think about why...).
