56 Singers Head to State Solo/Ensemble

posted Apr 23, 2017, 2:31 PM by Bruce J. Hanson   [ updated May 7, 2017, 8:46 AM ]

Fifty-six of North Pole High School's choral students will be heading to Anchorage May 12 through the 14th to participate in the Alaska Solo Ensemble Festival. Entries include solos, small ensembles and large ensembles.
All of the entries had to pass adjudication procedures at the regional level which occurred at Lathrop High Hchool March 28.
Singers have been rehearsing during school, at lunch, after school and on the weekends to prepare for this festival. Entrants are hoping for "superior" ratings-  the top score possible for each event. Singers who are considered by adjudicators to be the best in their category perform at the end of the festival during a command performance. North Pole often has entrants in this elite festival concert and is hoping for more this year.
Parents should have received permission forms and information letters indicating where we will be staying and how much each student must pay for transportation, housing and entrance fees. Don't hesitate to contact me if you haven't seen this information.

Welcome 2016-17 Singers and Parents!

posted Aug 21, 2016, 11:00 AM by Bruce J. Hanson   [ updated Aug 21, 2016, 11:00 AM ]

Welcome to the NPHS Choir Site. Here you can stay abreast of all the notices, requirements and events of our busy department.
All events are listed under "Performance Dates" and on our calendar. Some dates haven't been determined, so check back occasionally for updates.
All Goals and Rules, requirements, grade rubrics, etc have been sent home with your child but are also available here. As a matter of fact, ALL correspondence and handouts I give to students can be downloaded from this site, usually found on the bottom of the appropriate page.
Homework is done online, and students are expected to practice with Rehearsal Files throughout the week. Mixed Choir s required to turn in a Practice Log signed by their parent/guardian at the beginning of class each Monday morning.
Links to Emusictheory.com are available at the bottom of the left sidebar. Students are expected to do exercises for 15 minutes a week (worth 20% of their overall grade!).
Speaking of grades, PowerSchool can be accessed by parents and students to monitor grades. "Sooner better than later" will avoid nasty surprises at final grading times.
All students are asked to sign up for Remind.com, a mass texting service that allows me to remind them of assignments and update performance info. We are able to communicate singly, but all correspondence is logged so it's safe for everyone. You can view these texts by going to "Messages" on this site.
There you go! A quick tour of the NPHS Choir site. Hopefully it will make things clearer and more accessible for all involved. Don't hesitate to contact me (see "Contact" in the sidebar!) and here's to an incredible year of music and growth!

NPHS to Sing with Choir of the North

posted Jan 3, 2016, 11:36 AM by Bruce J. Hanson

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Choir of the North has invited North Pole High School and Lathrop high school Concert Choirs to join them in their spring concert, April 23rd at 7pm in the Davis Concert Hall. University director, Jaunelle Celaire, invited the choirs to perform two numbers each in the concert, while the high school directors will also have the opportunity to direct to the university group.  Since the North Pole group will have already performed two of the universities songs in previous concerts, they will join Choir of the North on those numbers as well.
