Club Net

Weekly Club Net on VHF

Our weekly Club Net is back! We conduct the Net on Thursday evenings, 1900 hrs. local time, on the 145.47 MHz KØECS repeater, located in Olathe, KS. This repeater uses a minus offset and 151.4 Hz PL tone.

When we are operating the Net, we welcome and encourage all licensed amateur radio operators to check into the Net. You do not need to be a Member of our Club in order to check into and participate in the Net.

We hope that you will enjoy making connections during our Club Net, and that you will participate regularly.

Net Control Schedule

Our standing schedule of Net Controllers is as follows:

This schedule is subject to change and substitution as needed from time to time.

About the KØECS Repeater and Johnson County Emergency Communications Service, Inc.

Use of the KØECS repeater is provided by Johnson County Emergency Communications Service, Inc. (ECS).  We gratefully acknowledge their permission to use this repeater for our Club Net.

ECS is the appointed R.A.C.E.S. (Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service) volunteer organization for the Johnson County Emergency Management Division. ECS trains and certifies local amateur radio operators to serve as official storm spotters during severe weather events, and to be available for other community emergencies.

We highly encourage amateur radio operators to volunteer and support the ECS mission and services it provides to the Johnson County community. More information about ECS can be found at www.K0ECS.org

We also highly encourage all Johnson County residents to sign up for emergency notifications at www.notifyjoco.org. That system will text you or call you with emergency messages from Johnson County Emergency Management. This is a great situational awareness tool for the safety of you and your family. It can also apprise you of ESC conditions at any time, and let you know if there might be some ESC activity to be aware of on the KØECS repeater.

Protocol on the KØECS Repeater and Preemption of Our Net During an ECS Severe Weather Net Activation

The highest priority use and intended purpose of the KØECS repeater is for ECS to provide services to the community in the event of a severe weather or other public safety event. We intend that our Club's use of the repeater, and conduct of our Club Net, will always bear that in mind.

During severe weather (or other emergency events) in Johnson County, the ECS Severe Weather Net is "activated" on the KØECS repeater by request of Johnson County Emergency Management in coordination with the National Weather Service (NWS). During such a Net activation, the KØECS repeater becomes a directed Net under the control of ECS personnel, and use of the repeater should be yielded exclusively to ECS's net controllers and certified storm spotters. If you are not a current certified ECS spotter, you should keep the frequency clear, so that you do not interfere with the priority traffic that ECS volunteers need to pass, which may include emergency or urgent reports that Emergency Management or NWS need for protection of life and property. Only when the severe weather event has ended and the Net controller has "deactivated" the Net and the repeater returned to normal use, should non-ECS amateur radio users resume any operations using the repeater.

Accordingly, any required use of the repeater by ECS during our Club Net will preempt our use of the repeater. If before our Club Net is scheduled to begin the ECS operations or NotifyJoCo alert condition is anything other than normal we will not call the Net. If a severe weather event develops any time during our Club Net, we will immediately terminate the Club Net, and yield full use of the repeater exclusively to the ECS controller(s) needing the frequency. We expect that all operators participating in our Club Net will also yield the frequency during such an event.
