Assemble

First, attach the leg sockets to the sides. Drill a clearance hole for the 1/4-20 bolt at one end of the leg socket, one-half inch in from the end. Position the leg socket flush with the bottom of the side and seated in the angled cutout, and use the EMT bracket to fasten the lower end of the socket. Bend the bracket slightly to put one end on the lower crosspiece, and the other end on top of the vertical piece with the angled cut. Drill a hole and mount the inner end of the bracket using the 1.4-20 1" screw and t-nut, then fasten the other end using a 1-1/4" deck screw. Do the bottom ends of both leg sockets before working on the top ends. Finally, position the tops of the leg sockets so the are touching and centered on the side, then drill holes and fasten with 1/4-20 2" screws and t-nuts.

Then, to assemble the frame, attach the sides to the front and back using the hinges. If you use the suggested truss head screws instead of the screws provided with the hinges, it will be much easier to assemble and align the pieces of the frame. It is very difficult to drill pilot holes and attach the hinges using typical supplied flat head screws and have the hinges end up exactly parallel to the axis of the joint. The hinges need to be well aligned to allow the frame to properly fold flat for transport and storage, and the truss head screws will allow the hinges to move slightly into alignment as required. The example shown below was assembled using the supplied hinge screws, and was quite a chore to get aligned properly.

Lastly, install the work surface. According to package directions, use the folding shelf hinges to attach the work surface to the front of the frame. Being careful with alignment here will help ensure that the spring release catches operate smoothly when lowering the work surface. The hinges attach to the (blue) plywood spacers on the front of the frame.
