Each athlete who meets one of the following criteria will receive a major letter in basketball:
All seniors who have participated in the program for 4 years.
All participants who appear in 24 quarters.
All participants who appeared to be on their way to earning a letter when sidelined due to injury or illness. (Coach’s judgment)
If the team wins 13 or more games, or wins the Conference title, or wins a District title; then all participants who regularly dressed for the varsity squad will letter. “Regularly dressed” will consist of one half or more of the regular season varsity games. The count will include tournament games.
Any participant who contributes significantly to victory in four or more games will receive a letter. (Coach’s judgment)
Any foreign exchange student who participates in the program.
Exclusion
No participant may letter who does not finish the season in good standing, even if they meet one or more of the above criteria. Adopted in print April 1982.
Note
These criteria will not change as long as I am head basketball coach.
No future JHS basketball coach should be bound to follow these criteria.
This criteria has been followed exactly since the beginning of the 1979-1980 season (During those years when I coached at Jesup)
