Click on the button to the Left to reach my NotebookLM - Small Nonprofit Advice. It includes recommendations from more than 150 sources identified through "Deep Research" on best practices for the different aspects of growth from inception to 15-20 FTE employees.
If you're not familiar with an NLM, it provides a chat-box interface to ask questions. It also has a number of prepared "Notes" in the "Studio" that can help understand the range of material.
I've served on multiple small nonprofit boards, both as board member and in several cases as president.Â
As a result of that service I concluded that I was initially innocent about how small nonprofits actually work, and how the board relates to the nonprofit, particularly as the organization grows.
With the advent of Google's AI tools it struck me that I could put together an assistant/mentor about the creation and growth of a small nonprofit, identifying and providing best practices on:
The stages of growth
The necessary roles, and how they change with size
Necessary software
The Board's role, and how it changes with size
The items in the NLM's "Studio" provide different looks at the information that may be useful.
