Check Out Errors

If students cannot check out books using the Self-Check Out station, they will need to bring them to you.

Go to the Circulation Tab at the Circulation Desk computer

Scan their card

See why they can't check out (overdue, checked out to someone else, etc)

If there is not a problem (see below)

Scan their book - If the book won't scan, write the barcode number (33600xxxxx) on a sticky note with the student's first and last name and leave it for me.

1. Student has an overdue item

  • Student must return the overdue item before they can checkout.

  • Give them the benefit of the doubt if they say they brought it back but books haven't been checked in yet.

  • Check the cart and the shelves for the book. Sometimes they get reshelved without being checked in.

2. Book has reached maximum allowable checkouts

  • As long as there are no holds on the book and no one waiting to check it out, I let them renew as many times as they like.

  • Do NOT renew Guinness World Book of Records. Kids are always waiting for those!

3. Book is checked out to someone else

  • Sometimes kids give books to their friends without getting them checked in first.

  • Sometimes the book has been reshelved without being checked in.

4. Item has been marked LOST or MISSING.

  • This item wasn't inventoried and was marked lost or missing.

  • Scanning the item will put it back into the library system.
