About Me

Background:

  • I was born in Indianapolis and raised there until I went to the University of Dayton (OH) for college. I received a B.S. in Environmental Science and then spent two service terms working for Americorps teams in state parks in Indiana.
  • I went back to school in 2014 and received my Master in the Art of Teaching degree from the University of Indianapolis (IN) 2016 and also received my teaching license through that same program.
  • Creighton is my third middle school teaching job, and this will be my third full year at Creighton, but my first year teaching STEM. I am heavily invested in running a hands-on style science class as I think it is one of the best ways to get middle school students comfortable with science as a subject and method of thinking.

Interests and Hobbies:

  • I have always had a strong interest in the natural world and outdoor activities.
  • I participated in Scouting and spent many weekends camping, hiking, learning outdoor skills, and simply enjoying nature.
  • In high school my love of nature transformed into a love and interest for all things science.
  • I got into the field of education because I want to ensure that future generations are scientifically literate and able to participate in global discussion of important scientific issues.
  • Most weekends (if not grading assignments) I'm getting lost somewhere in the mountains or reading a new book.
  • My favorite science advocate is currently astrophysicist Neil Degrassi Tyson and my favorite non-science author is Jim Butcher.
