Day 0: Pre-Departure

Post date: Apr 06, 2017 9:31:50 PM

Departure day is almost here! While at Johnson Space Center I will be working with a team of four MN teachers and 25 other educators from across the United States. During the week long Microgravity University for Educators we will be learning about topics in microgravity and space exploration that can be applied to the K-12 classroom, touring the facilities, and learning directly from NASA experts! We will also be testing a Satellite Launching Experimental Device (SLED) that was designed and built by students of my MN team members. Below is a schedule of events for the week, some of the wonderful designs my teammate Caroline drew for our weekly #MarsMonday social media posts, and some other pictures of the SLED build. I'm counting down the hours until our flight leaves Minneapolis at 6:00am Sunday!

Sunday: Meet fellow educator participants and NASA program coordinators followed by educator workshops

Monday: Educator workshops, meet our NASA mentor that has advised during the SLED build, and present to NASA panel for a safety review of our SLED

Tuesday: live broadcast of our first SLED test from 9:00am-10:00am (click this link to view live video or the later recording) followed by educator workshops

Wednesday: tour various facilities, educator workshops, amusement park physics

Thursday: final testing of our SLED device (a live broadcast at the same link and time above should be available) and educator workshops

Friday: tour various facilities and final presentation to NASA panel of our SLED results, outreach plan, and lesson plan
