16-Nov. 25-27, 2019

We've started learning about families, homes, cultures, and traditions of people in our class and elsewhere in the world. This upcoming week, we'll learn about the Wampanoag people that have lived on the eastern shores of our country for thousands (12,000) of years. Seeing and experiencing how they lived, ate, dressed, spoke, danced, played and created are aspects of the culture that the class will be learning about. We'll also look more closely and the pilgrims culture and way of life as reenacted on Plymouth Plantation.

Now here’s a more indepth peek at our week ahead: I want to mention that if your child says little about their day (not uncommon for many first graders), ask them specific questions about what we did in certain subjects. Keep in mind, I integrate as much as possible into everything I teach. Science was a huge part of our reading and writing and math. Now we're moving into more social studies so ask your child specific questions with those subjects in mind. Hopefully you'll get more details from your child. Our Challenge words are also key words we will use frequently and learn about for that week.

Special: Nov. 27: A First Thanksgiving Celebration in Mrs. Pilate’s Room-11:45-1:30

As we have been talking about homes and families, we’ll look at the pilgrims in the old world and how life changed for them in the new world. We’ll also look and homes, families and family life of the Wampanoag people and how we can learn so much and be thankful for the cultures and traditions of different people groups. I would like to have a first Thanksgiving celebration at the end of our day on Wed. from 11:45-pm-1:30pm, and would welcome any parents in who would like to help us do the rotations already planned. Please email me if you are available.

Good Luck with all your Thanksgiving preparations! Thank you again, Mrs. Pilate
