About SLPAs

Speech/Language Pathologists (SLPs) are professionals trained in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of communication disorders related to speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, swallowing and fluency.

Speech/Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs) are support personnel that provide assistances to the SLP in numerous ways. SLPAs often work directly with the kids to help them meet the goals written by the supervising SLP.

SLPs and SLPAs work with kids on how to use the right words when they talk, how to say sounds correctly so they can be understood by others, how to use their words to make friends, how to listen, follow directions, solve problems, and talk using an appropriate rhythm, pitch or vocal quality.

If you suspect your child has a communication disorder, please contact your child's school or teacher.
