Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment - Reading: All 3rd-8th graders in the state take this exam in the spring, which makes it a useful tool when analyzing where we stand with regard to our literacy program. With third grade being the first year the exam is given, these students have to learn the process about how to take a standardized test in addition to focusing on the content. Results from this exam are published each August.
Data Reporting
By July 1st of each year, Plainview-Elgin-Millville submits a report detailing its Grade K-through-3 reading assessment data to the Commissioner at the Minnesota Department of Education.
FastBridge is the universal assessment/screening system we utilize for all K-3 elementary students at P-E-M. FastBridge is a benchmark and progress monitoring system based on direct, frequent, and continuous student assessment. We use the results -- gathered in fall, winter and again in the spring to differentiate our instruction based on the needs of each learner and to inform parents about their child's reading strengths and needs. For example, students scoring below the benchmark targets receive additional support in the form of research-based reading interventions, Title I, ADSIS services or referrals to the Student Support Team. Students scoring at or above targets may be ready for enrichment or acceleration activities to keep up their enthusiasm for reading.
FastBridge also allows us to the monitor the progress of each student to let us know if our core curriculum is effective, if a particular intervention is working, and what still needs to be done to ensure all students are reading at grade-level proficiency by the end of their third grade year.
