The idea of a growth mindset comes from the book Mindset by Carol Dweck. It’s definitely worth checking out from the library and reading a few chapters.
Basically, people with a "growth mindset" believe that they can get better at things by practicing and working hard. That is definitely true in math class! People with a "fixed mindset," on the other hand, believe that they are either good or bad at something and there isn't much they can do about it.
This table summarizes some of the ways fixed and growth mindsets can play out in the math classroom. We will always be working to develop a growth mindset!
