Please, ensure you keep your MacBook backed up in preparation for new MacBooks this fall 2025.
Haven't updated to macOS Ventura yet? It's highly recommended that you update your Macbook to Ventura, however, if you haven't had a chance to update yet you can still find instructions for the following topics below if you're still on Monterey.
1. Open Self-Service
2. Click on the category ‘Printing 1 of 2’ to install the Ecopy Software.
3. Click on ‘Printing 2 of 2’, then install the appropriate Building ecopy printer.
4. We recommend you set a default printer.
Delete any you have now (for NTE, delete all printers)
Navigate to System Preferences > Printers and Scanners.
Click the + icon under the Printers List.
The Add dialog is displayed. It displays a list of all of the printers.
Select a printer should be named by building then location
At the bottom of the dialog box, make sure that Use is set to Secure AirPrint.
If Secure AirPrint isn't displayed, Close the Add dialog, Reboot your Macbook and try again.
Check if you can see Secure AirPrint now. If you can't, contact your Building tech.
Click Add.
Print your document. When prompted, enter your network username and password. You will have to do this once per printer you add.
The first time you print, after re-installing a printer, or after changing your password, you will have to enter your network username and password to authenticate. Type this carefully as one bad password will lock your account out.
If you see the "hold for authentication" message and the authentication box doesn't show up, click on the little refresh arrow. This will force the authentication box to come to the front of everything and you will be able to type in your credentials.
Type in your username and password. Check the box if you want your keychain to save your password. If you don’t check the box you will need to follow this process every time you print. Once you press OK, your job will be sent to the printer. Note: This can take up to a minute or two so, please, be patient.
While in the the application of your choosing, go to File > Print(or press ⌘+ P). Make sure an ECopy is selected as the printer. You may need to select “Show Details” from the bottom left of the print window to see additional options.
If you’re printing from Word: Click on the Copies & Pages drop down menu and choose Layout / Finish
If you’re printing from Preview: Click on the Preview drop down menu and choose Layout / Finish
If you’re printing from Outlook: Click on the Outlook drop down menu and choose Layout / Finish
Under Print Type change it from 2-Sided to 1-Sided
You can then click on Default Settings next to Presets and choose the option to Save Current Settings as Preset. Name the preset something along the lines of 1-Sided Printing and select the radio button to make it available for All Printers.
With the new security on the Macs, you will need to allow programs access to your computer. Most will pop up and ask you. Select "Open System Preferences" and click the padlock. Unlock this with your network password.
Many times you will have to set it in the Accessibility section for additional functionality.
Example: Google Drive File Stream
Open System Preferences, click Security & Privacy
Go to the Privacy Tab and select Accessibility
Unlock the padlock at the bottom and enter your network password when prompted for a password.
Then check the box to the left of Google Drive File Stream. You will only need to allow it once (per program/software).
You may need an adapter to connect your Mac with other technology.
Please get one from your building tech support person.
1. Plug in the adapter to your MacBook. Attach the VGA connector from your adapter to the VGA connection on the wall. (some will have HDMI and not VGA but the same process should be followed)
2. Apple > System Preferences > Displays
3. Click on Display Settings(this will not show up if the adapter is not plugged in).
4. Click on the drop down next to Use as and change it to “Mirror as… " this will change your desktop resolution.
5. By default, it will optimize for your Macbook, you will want to change this to optimize for the display you are using.
6. You may need to adjust the Resolution Settings as well. Choose Scaled and check the box that says “Show all resolutions” to see all available options. This will vary from computer to computer as each projector/monitor will have different settings so you can adjust it to what works best for your setup.
For Macs running Operating Systems older than Monterey, see section Projector Setup (older versions)
You may perform this update either on the school network or while at offsite(home, etc...)
1. Plug into power. Unplug from any dongles, accessories (ex: USB drive), etc.…Only your power cable should be plugged in prior to the update.
2. Be sure your files (desktop, documents and favorites) are saved to your H drive, google drive or somewhere other than the local computer.
3. It is recommended to have 24 GB or more (depending on your current version) of free space prior to downloading & installing the update.
a. Start by going into Applications and delete any Install MacOS files that are listed there. To delete, drag the installer to the trash, then immediately empty the trash.
You can remove larger apps like iMovie, GarageBand, Keynote, or Numbers if they are not needed. They can always be re-Installed later via Self Service or the App Store.
b. To see your current free space, click the Apple Menu > About This Mac > Storage. You can click ‘Manage’ for detailed info. Big files are usually videos, photos, and software downloads. If you have deleted photos, be sure to delete those and then empty your trash.
c. For additional steps on freeing up space visit: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT206996
4. Restart your Macbook
5. Plan for the computer not being usable for a period time (depends on how far behind you are in updates but could be up to a few hours)
6. Run the software update from System Preferences > Software Update. It will look similar to the window below. Once you click on “Upgrade Now” you may have to agree to terms and/or enter your network credentials to continue. It will likely need to download the update which will take several minutes.
7. Once the update starts, the computer may restart a couple times during the update process. This is normal. Typically, after the first restart you will need to enter in your credentials for it to complete the update.
8. Once the computer restarts, you may not see the white login window. If you don’t see the white login window, find your username then enter your network password to login.
Important: If you didn’t see the white login screen, once you’re logged in, go into Self Service, click Nomad from the left then from the right click ‘Install’ or ‘Reinstall’. This will take a few minutes and eventually bring you back to the white login screen with the Farmington logo. You will need to login again at this time.
