The MSHSL has updated their COVID policy for the 2022-23 school year.
FYI: The state league's rules are stricter than the current policy for district 191. This means you may be allowed back to school sooner than you are practice/competition. Wash your hands people...
In short...
-If test positive, that's day zero. You have to be away from the team for all practices and competitions for days 0-5. You may return with a mask for days 6-10. See more details below.
These are left over from the 2020 season. Let's all hope we don't ever need them again.
Check-in to Practice and Attendance
-Coaches will be expected to take daily attendance using the NFHS COVID 19 Athlete/Coach Monitoring Sheet
-Coaches will fill in the sheet completely and will keep records for the entire season, in the event there is a need for tracing
-Prior to students coming to school for in-person instruction, students will be required to take their temperature prior to arriving at practice and will report their temperature when they arrive as part of check-in.
-This will be a continued practice for students who have distance learning days on their schedule. Students who have in-person instruction will have their temperature taken by the coach using a contactless thermometer provided by the athletics department.
Locker Rooms
-Locker rooms will not be available for student-athletes prior to the start of in person classes beginning in the hybrid model (No lockers before Sept 14th). Students should come prepared for practice in their appropriate attire.
-Locker rooms will be limited only to students who attended in-person school. Students who have distance learning will be expected to come ready for practice
-Lockers will be assigned in a way that will maintain proper social distancing
-Masks must be worn in locker rooms (and in all indoor facilities, with the exception of the pool when students are swimming)
Indoor Facilities Space
-Indoor space will not be available for use prior to the start of in-class instruction (with the exception of swim, which will enter in door 32 in the science wing)
Weight Room
-The weight room has a limit of 20 people and must be scheduled ahead. We will likely spend limited time in the weight room this year.
-Weights should NOT be heavy, as training with spotters violates social distancing guidelines
Team Pictures
-Pictures will take place on Wednesday, August 26th. There will be no team picture, only individual pictures.
-If you wish to order pictures, the company prefers you fill out their online order form. (Link will be provided later)
Pasta Parties
-None this year. Sorry.
At Races:
Bus Rides
Everyone wears a mask the entire time. Any space that’s not outdoors requires a mask.
Seats are spaced out (max is 25-30(?) people on a bus)
Bus is also our team camp. This way we are on and off the race course more efficiently.
Some bus rides will be during the school day because the races start in the morning and go all day long. There may even be race days where we leave school early, compete, and return before the school day is over.
Upon arrival
Warm up in neighborhoods near race course because the competitive area needs to be completely cleared for 30 minutes.
Keep stuff on or near bus. No team camps.
Should be a porta-potty for our teams use.
No mingling with other teams.
Race
Courses will be run sight unseen. Maps given in advance.
Races start in a wave (25 people per start line) with fastest athletes going first.
Waves will start 1-2 minutes apart. Everyone will run in the same race. No JV/Varsity races.
Each athlete will be given a chip that they will use for the entire season.
Once finished, leave the area immediately to avoid congestion of runners.
After race
Go straight to bus. Cool down in neighborhoods.
Bus takes us back to school.
