Nazariyat - Department Journal

Nazariyat - A Journal of the History Society , Vol. I

Student paper presentations have been a strong

feature of our Department and has become

an annual activity since 2010. This has trained

students to do research and make presentations

according to protocols of scholarship, while

understanding that their view may represent only

one of the possible perspectives (nazariyat) on

the subject of enquiry.

These efforts, with the sustained interest and

support of the Principal, Dr. B.M. Saraf, have

now culminated in a students' journal. The

Department is pleased to announce the first

issue of Nazariyat, A Journal of the History Society.

The papers presented here were prepared for

student seminars on the themes

'Reading Auto/Biography as a Source of History'

and 'Reading Text, Reading Image'. As will be

apparent, the aim of preparing papers on these

themes was to make students aware that every

source carries the perspective of its writer/ maker;

the context of its time and the strategic aims

with which every cultural act is composed.

We hope every student who wrote or heard these

papers became aware that no source may be taken

as a statement of absolute truth.
