Archaeological Survey of India

Engaging student field trips & conducting on-field lectures is a regular activity in our extended curriculum. In recent years we have explored thirteen of the thirty-eight declared World Heritage Sites in India which are under the protection of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). These cultural sites, listed in alphabetical order, are: Agra Fort, Ajanta and Ellora Caves, Buddhist monuments at Sanchi, Fatehpur Sikri, Hampi, Humayun's Tomb Complex, Khajuraho, Pattadakkal group of monuments including Badami & Aihole, Qutb Minar Complex, Red Fort at Delhi, Rock shelters of Bhimbetka & Taj Mahal.

The ASI has facilitated us on several field trips and has contributed to our experience in gainful ways by helping us access difficult sites in Delhi & outside, facilitating a close survey of monuments with the help of specially trained staff, and generously sharing resources to encourage students in fields of heritage conservation & preservation.

One of the highlights of our association with the ASI was the Workshop for Training Voluntary Heritage Guides that was conducted in September 2010. This workshop was conducted by our faculty Dr. Meenakshi Khanna at the Red Fort in Delhi engaging 67 students of the College who belonged to history as well as other disciplines. This workshop culminated in a two week camp involving 33 students who served as voluntary guides at the Red Fort during the XIXth Commonwealth Games held in Delhi during 1-14 October 2010. The Voluntary Heritage Guides were awarded 'Certificate of Appreciation' issued jointly by the ASI and IPCW at a special function held in premises of the Red Fort.
