JAZZ BAND
NWJH has a strong JAZZ BAND tradition, of which we are very proud! We have a 7th Grade Jazz Band and an 8th Grade Jazz Band. Each group meets twice a week before school and is open to anyone enrolled in band!
The jazz bands give three performances every year, each with a special trait. One is at the beautiful Coralville Center for the Performing Arts. Another is shared with the talented West High jazz groups. And the final concert always features a professional jazz musician as a guest artist who performs and works with our NW Jazz students!
In addition the jazz bands participate in other opportunites where they have excelled and earned many honors. They consistenly receive top placings at the annual SEIBA Jazz Festival and have been invited to perform at the Iowa Bandmasters Conference. And here in our own community, the 8th Grade travels to local preschools and elementary schools to get future generations excited about jazz!
