Concert Bands

Concert Band is the cornerstone of our band program at NWJH!

We have three bands: The 6th Grade Band is divided into four sections dependent upon other electives. This group gives two concerts every year. The Concert Band (7th Grade) meets 2nd Period daily and The Symphonic Band ( 8th Grade) meets every day during 7th Period. Both groups have over 110 members and give three performances every year (one per trimester). In addition, they perform every year in a concert band clinic hosted by the University of Iowa. Every student involved in the program receives a weekly small group lesson with our talented educators!

The NW Concert Bands have often been recognized for their achievements, including multiple performances at the Iowa Bandmasters Association (most recently in 2023 and 2026). In addition, many students participate in honor festivals such as the Southeast Iowa Bandmasters Honor Band (where NWJH has had more students selected than any other school for the past 9 years!) and the All-Iowa 8th Grade Band (where NW regularly has one of the highest attendance numbers in Iowa).
