Student Mentor Program
What is the mentoring program?
-A school based mentoring program serving K-12 students district wide. Adults are matched with a student and become a role model and a friend to them.
-Meet with a student 30-45 minutes a week during the school day, on the school grounds, during the school year
-Commit to meeting with the student for the entire school year August through May.
What is the impact of mentoring for the student?
It helps the student with a positive attitude, improved attendance, and social skills.
What are the benefits?
For the Student: Develop habits that lead to success, improved attendance, improved eye contact, happier with school, positive attitude,
enhanced self-esteem.
For the Mentor: Personal satisfaction, community involvement, provide leadership, and teach by example, and have an active role in today's youth.
How do I refer my child to the Mentor Program?
Students are referred to the coordinator by parents and staff to be part of the program. For more information, view the Parent Introductory Letter and fill out the Parent Permission form which is found below. Complete the forms and return them to the West Elementary office. If you are the one making the referral for the student, please complete the mentor referral form also found below.
How do I become a mentor?
If you would like to become a Mentor to an ICSD student, please complete the registration forms found on the navigation bar under Forms. Please complete them, and return by mail to 1301 1st St West, or deliver to West Elementary office (same address).
Mentors are matched with students based on their need and interests. Mentoring activities can include: playing games, reading, helping with homework, eating lunch together, going outside for recess, talking about their day, etc.
