The Algebra and Number Theory group at UERJ operates at the frontier of pure mathematics and its computational interfaces, with an emphasis on Arithmetic Geometry, Group Theory, Commutative Algebra, Lie Algebras, and related fields. The impact of the group's work is consolidated across three axes: Research Output and International Integration—a steady stream of publications in high-impact journals covering the arithmetic properties of curves and varieties, as well as structures in group theory and Lie algebras, while maintaining collaborations with global centers of excellence; Computational Mathematics—integrating abstract theory with algorithms on specialized platforms (such as MAGMA and SageMath) to solve open problems in Diophantine geometry and representation theory, with links to cryptography; and Training and Dissemination—impacting UERJ’s undergraduate and graduate programs through the supervision of students (ranging from undergraduate research to master's and doctoral levels) and the organization of seminars and events aimed at training the next generation of researchers.
