Instructions for BCS Students
Step 1
Check Prerequisite and Corequisite Courses for CSCI 4401
If you do not fulfill the prerequisites courses you are NOT ALLOWED to register for CSCI 4401.
The pre-requisite to enroll in FYP 1 (CSCI 4401) is to earn at least 78 credit hours. Students are required to register the enrolment during Online Course Registration or Add/Drop Exercise.
You must register CSCI 4401 and CSCI 4402 in TWO (2) CONSECUTIVE LONG SEMESTERS. Any request to register your CSCI 4401 or CSCI 4402 in the short semester (Semester 3) or both CSCI 4401 or CSCI 4402 in the same semester is NOT ALLOWED.
Step 2
Propose a Project Title for FYP
You have to propose a project title based on your FYP project types (Research or Development). The title has to be new and original. If you do not have any idea or what to develop for your FYP, you can refer to your potential supervisor for suggestions or from the available project titles. The department encourages students to find topics related to IIUM SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) as per below, and 5 principles of Maqasid Syariah (Protection to Religion, Life, Intellect, Linage, and Property). Please further discuss this with your potential supervisor.
Step 3
Validate the Proposed Project Title
You need to self-validate your project title by checking any similar project title that has been developed by previous students on the existing project titles page. If there is a similar project title found, you need to revise your project title or enhance the existing project titles with project versioning.
Step 4
Prepare a Project Proposal & Attach your Result Slip
Based on your proposed project title, prepared a project proposal with the given template and include all the required contents. Make sure your details such as Name, Matric No, Email (gmail only), and Proposed Project Title are correctly spelled. Your details must follow IIUM Official record (check your i-ma'luum).
Numbers of students for One Final Year Project:
Each student may do the Final Year Project alone or maximum member of two in one group.
For a group project, only one project proposal is needed and make sure your group member details are included on the cover page (refer to the given template). You need to print both of your project proposal and result slip (to check that already you have earned at least 78 credit hours) (check your i-ma'luum) before approaching any potential supervisor. Your project proposal must not exceed six (6) pages.
You can get your result slip through i-ma'luum. Highlight the registered prerequisite (78 credit hours or more) for easy-viewing. Remember, NO PROJECT PROPOSAL, NO RESULT SLIP, NO SUPERVISOR!
Step 5
Search for Available Supervisor
Before approaching your potential supervisor, check the available supervisors' page for his or her availability (section full or available slot). Remember, your supervisor can only accept 6 students and it is based on first-come-first-served basis. No reservation is allowed.
Your supervisor will use your details printed on your project proposal for registration. He or she will not responsible for any incorrect information entered based on your printed project proposal.
Please be mindful during searching for available supervisor. This is NOT fishing like activity. Do inform the supervisor you've approached if you've secured your supervisor. DO NOT leave things hanging.
Step 6
Approval Email
You will receive a pre-approved email from your supervisor with a unique URL. Click on the URL, fill in your details and submit. If there is NO SUBMISSION WITHIN 48 HOURS (2 DAYS), your approval will consider INVALID and you need to approach another supervisor. Regardless whether you are working on a group project or not, you need to submit your details individually.
Once you have submitted your details through the given URL, you will receive an approval email from FYP coordinator. Keep the approval email for future reference.
Step 7
Register CSCI 4401
Once you have received the approval email from FYP Coordinator, register your CSCI 4401 through IIUM pre-registration system. ANY REGISTRATION THROUGH IIUM PRE-REGISTRATION SYSTEM WITHOUT CONSENT OF THE SUPERVISOR IS CONSIDERED AS INVALID APPLICATION. THUS, YOU WILL BE DROPPED FROM CSCI 4401 AUTOMATICALLY.
If you have a Finance Blocked status, settle your tuition fees and inform the department that you have settled your payment. For any Workload Exceeded status, drop any irrelevant courses (other than co-requisite courses) to make room for your CSCI 4401. In addition, if any problems caused you unable to proceed with pre-registration please solve them before the semester starts.
Step 8
Early Consultation
Contact your supervisor and discuss what you need to do before the semester starts. This will include requirements gathering, development tools, review of the existing systems, and planning for your project development.
Step 9
Double Check your Confirmation Slip
Make sure your CSCI 4401 is registered under the correct section and supervisor in the first week of each. Late registration fee will be imposed for any amendment (correction) in the second week of the semester.
Step 10
Attend CSCI 4401 Briefing/Seminar
Briefing/Seminar for CSCI 4401 is a MANDATORY and counted as attendance. The briefing will be held on FRIDAY OF THE 1ST WEEK of the semester. Therefore keep up with following your FYP WhatsApp group for any updates. You need to attend the briefing even though your CSCI 4401 is not yet reflected on your confirmation slip.
