CNA registry
As a Husson University School of Nursing student, you are potentially eligible for entry into the CNA registry in Maine after completion of additional clinical hours as a CNA or completion of clinical hours as a sophomore in spring semester. To find the most current application, please go to the following site: CNA application
Kim Heath, the Administrative Assistant, will assist you in submitting a letter of equivalent training to the CNA registry with your application. You will need a copy of your social security number, driver's license or passport, and a copy of your criminal background check. If you have any questions about the application, please see Dr. Valerie Sauda, Chief Nurse Administrator/Undergraduate Director. Updated 6/1/2020 VCS
RN licensure in states other than Maine
The process for licensure does vary from state to state. If upon graduation, your primary state of residence will be in another state, than you will need to apply to that state for initial license. To find the license requirements, locate the State Board of Nursing in the state that you wish to apply for clear outline of next steps. If you need assistance in the process, please see Dr. Valerie Sauda, the Undergraduate Director, or your academic advisor for assistance. Please notify Dr. Sauda, once you have accepted a nursing position via email to saudav@husson.edu. Please include the site, shift, and floor or specialty which you are practicing. We use this information as part of our quality measures and accreditation information for the Husson University School of Nursing. Also, make sure to follow the School of Nursing on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Feel free to email the school with career information or exciting news about yourself as you start your career in nursing practice! Updated 6/1/2020 VCS
Maine RN licensure
To register for RN licensure by examination in Maine, there are steps that you need to take in order to take your RN examination upon graduation. The anticipated 2020 TOTAL FEE COST for Maine Licensure is $327.00 with approximately an additional $15.00 fee for passport photo for an OVERALL TOTAL of approximately $342.00. Updated 6/1/2020 VCS
The steps are as follows:
1) Complete all the coursework and requirements for graduation in the appropriate timeframes (by Spring graduation or Fall graduation dates as set by the Registrar) with the B.S. in Nursing degree as approved by the Husson University Chief Nurse Administrator and/or designee and Registrar. You are not eligible to submit an application to the Maine State Board of Nursing until this step is completed.
2) Complete the online application for RN licensure. You will need to:
Identify Maine as your state of residency and provide proof of residency. Of note, make sure you have an up to date and current Maine Driver's license and/or passport that has your current name and current address on it (or the address where you are living when you take the NCLEX-RN examination). THIS DOCUMENT IS WHAT IS USED TO ENTER THE NCLEX-RN examination. The information must match your licensure application and what you put on the Pearson Vue registration. To update your drivers' license, there is a Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles in Bangor-see the website for more information. Also, in the application, list year which you became a resident in Maine-if you were born in Maine, that is the date that you put there. If you moved to Maine, list the moving date. See Valerie Sauda, Undergraduate Coordinator, if you have any questions about your state of residency. It is essential that you list the email address that you are going to be checking as the address on both the NCLEX-RN application as well as the Pearson Vue application as all communication to you about testing comes online.
Provide a passport photo. Passport photos can be obtained inexpensively through Walgreens, Walmart, and the Bangor Post Office-check hours online.
Provide the signature page which has your signature on it-print it here Application Signature Page
Complete a new criminal background check and fingerprints-to schedule an appointment for the background check, go to Appointments. If you have a finding on your criminal background check, a detailed letter explaining the incident, followup and details is required-see Valerie Sauda, Undergraduate Coordinator, or Dr. Beuk if you need assistance with this type of letter.
The HUSoN will send a copy of the confirmation of graduation once you have been confirmed by the registrar. The letter is signed by the Chair or designee.
As of 6/1/2020, the fee for licensure is $75.00, and the fee for the criminal background check is $52.00. These fees are payable on the application and on the site where you schedule your fingerprinting. Fees may change so double check the Board of Nursing website.

3) Register with Pearson Vue, the vendor who administers the NCLEX-RN examination any time. You can find the site at Pearson Vue Registration. As of Spring 2020, the cost for the NCLEX-RN examination is $200.00, payable online by credit card. No changes anticipated this year 2020.
4) Once you receive the Authorization to Test letter in your email from the Maine State Board of Nursing, you will be able to schedule your examination date and time on the Pearson Vue website under your account. Please note, that for May graduates, this process can take up to four weeks after graduation, so please do not contact the Maine State Board of Nursing to check on the status of your application.
5) Once you have successfully passed the NCLEX-RN examination, your name will appear on the public licensing website at https://www.pfr.maine.gov/ALMSOnline/ALMSQuery/SearchIndividual.aspx?Board=1310. The date the license is issued is the date that you may start to use the credential of R.N. after your name. You are not allowed to identify yourself as an R.N. until that date as this is a violation of state law. Of note, once you have the credential of R.N., you will be able to start employment as a Registered Nurse in Maine so it is important that you notify your employer that you have passed your NCLEX-RN examination.
If you are not successful on the NCLEX-RN examination, we encourage you to reach out to Valerie Sauda, Undergraduate Coordinator, who will help you navigate your next steps and plan.
6)Please notify Valerie Sauda, Undergraduate Director, once you have accepted a nursing position via email to saudav@husson.edu. Please include the site, shift, and floor or specialty which you are practicing.
