Jewelry

Course Description

In this beginning jewelry course, you will be introduced to the Studio Habits of Mind, Elements of Art and Principles of Design. Your progress will be based on sequential learning steps with emphasis on developing basic techniques and skills.

As the course progresses, you will explore soldering, cold connecting, fabrication, chain making, etching, enameling, casting, and other techniques, as time allows. You will create six to ten different projects. Each project requires you to plan, draw, and design before the piece is executed. Each project emphasizes a particular material, technique, or design problem. Projects will be graded on objective criteria as well as creative use of design elements and materials.

In addition to making art, students are expected to observe and reflect on their art making process through the use of a sketch book journal and the practice of formal critiques.
