The eighth grade Religion curriculum is built on two main themes: Morality and Church History.
To begin the year, Morality will be our focus as study the dignity of the human person, human freedom, our conscience, and the Ten Commandments. From there, students will travel way back to 29 AD, which is when many scholars believed that the Church officially started. The students will journey through the six major periods in Church History and learn about many people, events, and decrees that have made lasting contributions to our Church. They will discover that despite numerous trials, the Church has triumphed.
Social Justice and Catholic Identity are also major components of the curriculum. Over the past year, I have developed activities that are built around the idea that we should be recognizable as Christians by our words and actions. These activities include: a revised and improved service requirement, participation in Prayer Walks and a Living Rosary, the spiritual adoption program, and the Grade Eight Patron Saint project.
