The ELA curriculum is aligned with college and work force expectations, and it is based on a rigorous, relevant content. As such, it requires the use of twenty-first century skills such as communication, creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration.
In the classroom, we will spend significant time reading and analyzing different forms of literature--short stories, novels, poems, plays--and informational pieces. Three writing structures will be emphasized: expository, narrative, and argument. The students will spend a great deal of time writing for a variety of purposes using varied formats. Content information will be used frequently as the basis for writing assignments.
In accordance with the Archdiocesan report card, the students will work to earn three separate ELA grades each trimester: Reading, Writing, and Communication. Specific and ongoing assessment information can be found on FACTS. A weekly log in would be very useful. Additionally, test folders are sent home on Fridays. Always sign and return the folders by the following Tuesday!
