Highland Middle School
8th grade Washington DC class trip
March 26 - 28, 2024
ALL OUTSTANDING STUDENT FEES (K-8) MUST BE PAID PRIOR TO
ANY PAYMENT MADE TOWARD the Washington DC Trip.
The student cost of the trip will be approximately $660.
This amount includes lodging, transportation, meals, travel insurance, t-shirt.
Registration and payment will be done through Nowak Tours.
Permission forms must be turned in to the school office by Nov 20.
All fees must be paid by Dec. 20 to be eligible for the trip.
The trip and travel insurance must be paid through Nowak Tours between Jan 1 - Jan 20.
Fee letters and DC Cost information were sent out in October.
Students should arrive at 6:15 AM on Wednesday, March 26 with a disposable lunch.
Students need to pack two outfits which include the provided DC T-shirt.
Parents should update any contact information in Final Forms before March 15. This is where we will get our Emergency Contact information.
If Emergency Contact information changes after 3/15 please contact the Middle School Office to make sure we have the change made on the DC paperwork.
DC to do list:
1) Parent Meeting on Oct. 11 in the Media Center. 3 times you can attend 4:00, 5:30, or 7:00.
2) Turn in the permission slip to the HMS office by Nov 20, 2023.
3) If you have DC questions, get them answered in the Media Center on Nov 16 from 6-7. - CANCELLED - please reach out to Mr. Henry directly.
4) Pay school fees to the HMS office by Dec. 20, 2023.
5) Register on the Nowak Tours website beginning Jan. 1, 2024.
6) In your Nowak account, select that you want the travel insurance. (Must be done before step 7) It is not optional. The cost is $31.50.
7) Pay trip cost, $558, to Nowak Tours between Jan 1-17.

Parent Meetings:
Oct. 11 at 4:00, 5:30 and again at 7:00 pm in the Media Center.
There will be a parent meeting on Oct 11 where Mr. Henry will discuss registration for the trip, financials, trip itinerary, room arrangements, trip cancelation, parent chaperones, and more. It is the same presentation 3 times.
Nov. 16 from 6:00 - 7:00 pm in the Media Center. - CANCELED

Medication Information
Medication. Any medication a student needs on the trip must be carried by the student’s chaperone. (An exception would be a self carry epi pen) If your child will need medication please do the following:
If it is medication that the student takes at school, contact the school nurse at extension 1429 to communicate what will be needed for the DC trip. She will copy the paperwork and package the medication to give to the chaperone.
If the student requires medication that the school does not have, fill out the appropriate paperwork and send in to Mrs. Warner in the Main Office the amount of medication that the student will need on the trip. Prescription Medication Paperwork Over-the-Counter Medication Paperwork
Food Allergies. If your child has dietary restrictions that need to be worked out, please contact Mr. Henry.
Spring Break Plans. If you will be picking up your child from the trip early, please contact Mr. Henry to work out arrangements.
What can/should a student bring on the trip?
Students will get two T-shirts this year - a green one for Day 1 and a pink on for Day 2. Students should dress comfortably: jeans, leggings, shorts, sport pants, and walking shoes. Pay extra attention to the weather to know if you need a coat, rain jacket, shorts, etc.
The hotel provides the normal towels, soap, shampoo, and bedding. Any additional toiletries the students would need to bring.
Camera/phone to take pictures. Students will be able to keep their phones with them on the trip. Headphone/airpods if they want to listen to their phone.
Light snacks are optional. Any drinks brought need to be unopened (sealed).

What should students NOT bring on the trip?
Gaming devices, laptops, Chromebooks, etc.
Bluetooth or plug in speakers (personal headphones or AirPods only)
