Parent Teacher Conferences

Friday morning at approximately 7:00 AM the parent teacher conference link will go live for sign ups. It will appear first in this Middle Seat and will also be posted on the Highland Middle School webpage.

Use this Signup Genius link to schedule parent teacher conferences for September 22.

I know these sign ups fill up fast. If you have serious concerns, you are able to schedule a face-to-face or a phone conference with a teacher(s) during the day. You will need to contact the teacher to see what days they are available. In general 7th grade teachers are free at 7:30 AM, 8th grade teachers are free at 8:30, and 6th grade teachers are free at 9:20.

The next conference night will be on October 13. The sign up will come out on October 7.

It is best if parent teacher conferences are left for those families who have concerns over their child's progress, rather than a meet the teacher.

HMS PTO Dinner Donations

The first HMS PTO sponsored parent teacher conference dinner is set for Thursday, September 22. It is tradition for the PTO to provide a meal for all the teachers and administrators prior to the start of conferences. To make this happen, we need your help! If you would like to send in a donation please see the list of available items by clicking on the SignUpGenius link below. Thank you for helping out!

Final Forms

All sixth grade parents have completed their portion of Final Forms for this school year! Congrats and thank you!

About 80% of 7th and 8th grade parents have completed their portions.

6th Grade Camp Pick Up

Friday students will return to HMS at approximately 1:30. I will give updates as to the arrival time on Twitter. Please keep the parking lot roadways clear around the Middle School so the buses can enter and leave the parking lot.

You will meet your student either at the stadium or in the West Gym depending on the weather. I will update this on Twitter also. If you are there early, you may begin to locate your child's luggage.

You will need to sign out your child as you leave the stadium or the gym. There will be lines set up by alphabet. We will allow anyone listed on the Emergency Medical Authorization in Final Forms to pick up your child without a note or phone call from you. If you do not remember who is listed you can, at any time, log back into Final Forms to review the information. Any information changed in Final Forms today will not be update in time for us to have it for Camp dismissal.

If your child is getting picked up by someone other than those listed on the Emergency Medical Authorization, you may:

  • Send in a note to school prior to camp ending stating who will pick up your son/daughter.
  • Be on the phone with the person picking up your child to speak with the sign out table when they are checking out.
  • An email WILL NOT work.

These will be the ONLY ways in which we will allow a child to go home with someone other than their parent.

It is a very exciting time when the students return and see their parents. It is also very busy and hectic. Please be patient as you wait to sign out, then exit Highland Middle School and the parking lot as quickly and safely as possible. The stories your children will share will be best heard at home.

School Pictures

Picture Day is September 21 beginning at 7:30. Over 70% of the student body was photographed on August 11 (Supply & Registration Day). On Sept 21 we will take a picture of anyone who has not been photographed plus any retakes from Sept 21. Not every student will be photographed on this day. Picture forms are available in the office or you can order online at mylifetouch.com and use picture ID: WP096004Y1

Washington DC Trip

Now that 6th graders are off to camp, I can turn my attention to the 8th grade Washington DC trip. The trip will be March 22-24. This cost per student will be $510 which includes travel insurance.

I will hold an informational meeting for parents who wish to chaperone the DC trip after Parent Teacher Conferences on Sept. 22 from 7:30-8:00 in the media center.
