Oral Reading Fluency: We will be consistently read out loud during our read to self times in class. The goal for this is to improve our fluency, expression and confidence when reading orally.
Reading Strategies: At the beginning of the year we will be focusing on making strong predictions. Predictions can be done before, during and/or after reading. Our first read aloud is RUN by Eric Walters.
Format: We will be focusing on how to write a paragraph and how to format one properly. Once that skill is learned we will be moving on to personal narratives where students get to share and explore seed moments and make them really come alive to their readers!
Writing Process: We will be consistently practising going through the Writing Process with a specific focus on Pre-Writing and Revising at the beginning of the year.
Six Traits of Writing: We will be consistently referring to our 6 Traits of Writing (Organization, Voice, Sentence Fluency, Voice, Word Choice & Conventions) throughout the year.

Presentations: There will be formal and informal presentations throughout the year and during each class students go to. There will be a major focus on being prepared for presentations which will help students engage more with the audience through eye contact.
Listening: Students are constantly being assessed and given feedback about their listening skills during formal and informal presentations throughout the school year.
