Reporting Procedures for the Kindergarten Years

The Ontario Ministry of Education published The Kindergarten Program, which provides specific expectations for children's learning. The knowledge, skills and attitudes that the students should develop by the end of Senior Kindergarten are outlined in this document. This publication is available on the Ministry of Education website at: www.edu.gov.on.ca.

Communication of Learning:

Children receive an Initial Observation report in November and a Communication of Learning report in February and June. This gives you information about your child’s strengths and growth during the school year. It also gives you information about plans to support your child’s learning at school and how you can help them at home. Our goal is to provide you with personalized, clear and meaningful comments about your child’s progress in the Kindergarten program. This document provides information that supports students in their learning, helps educators make plans for further learning and helps you support your child’s learning at home.

There are four frames of the Kindergarten program:

1. belonging and contributing

2. self-regulation and well-being

3. demonstrating literacy and mathematics behaviours

4. problem solving and innovating
