Get a head start (or some review!) on playing with your bow with this short video lesson.
Here's a quick review for our beginner violinists and violists on how to play a 1st finger E on the D-string!
Here's a summertime hit! "Havana" is a super-catchy tune by Cuban-American singer Camila Cabello. The tune challenges us to play in the key of E-minor which uses a low 2nd finger on the C-natural (on A-string). Be sure to stick around to play it with the guitar accompaniment at the end!
Here's one of the most requested tunes from my students! It has some tricky 3rd finger lines that will take some practice. Enjoy!
Here's an old American song that's really fun to play! Fiddle songs like this were passed down from generation to generation, usually by ear. So, we'll learn this one without sheet music just like folk musicians around the world do. I wonder, are you more comfortable learning this way or are you more comfortable with the sheet music? Both are just as valuable!
Here's a beautiful love song by Ed Sheeran. This tune works really well for the violin because it's written in our favorite key: D. Notice that the rhythms of the sheet music are "square," they won't sound exactly like Ed Sheeran's vocal lines because he uses some really subtle syncopations. Once you've got the notes down, though, use the written lyrics to match the rhythms more accurately to the way Ed Sheeran sings!
Check out this video lesson and challenge yourself to play "Hot Cross Buns" in as many places on the violin as you can! Can you get 5? 6? Or all 12 keys?!
Now this one is a classic! Have fun playing this triumphant tune, first by plucking, then by bowing. Good luck, Jedi!
