Writing

Reading and writing are interwoven processes and each helps build and strengthen the other. Throughout third grade, students will do a tremendous amount of writing, both independently and cooperatively. They write for an array of purposes across various areas of the curriculum including Science and Social Studies. Writing takes many forms including responses to literature, narratives, descriptive paragraphs, and research reports. Writer’s workshop is a time when the writing process: prewriting, drafting, editing and publishing are taught and utilized. Writer’s workshop encourages children to edit their work, comment on classmates work and publish a writing piece they are proud of. In addition, oral presentations are done to improve students’ organization, audience contact, voice projection, and intonation.
