Sophomore Bridge Program: (for mid-level, continuing and transfer UH students)
Dates: May 26-July 17, 2026 (8 weeks)
What: 8-week STEM summer program with foundations in cultural values, identity, and practices that addresses areas of interest for mid-level college students: completing STEM gateway courses, transitioning to UH Mānoa, getting involved, and building a network of STEM peers, faculty & staff, and professionals.
Students will perform faculty-driven research in university laboratories, enroll in a degree-required summer STEM course (3 cr), participate in ʻOi Ka Naʻauao Spotlight Series (professional development, cultural engagement), attend industry site visits, and give a formal research presentation.
Where: In-person program on the UH Mānoa campus
Who: Mid-level UH Mānoa or transfer students majoring in STEM or PREN/ENGR; the following are encouraged to apply:
Majoring in STEM degrees at UH Mānoa or
Majoring/intending to major in STEM degrees with the intention of transferring to UH Mānoa for 2026-27 AY from UH CC campuses;
Strong interest in / connection to Hawaiian culture, values, and relationship to STEM; and
STEM students who have not performed research or industry internship prior to summer 2026.
Incoming First-Year Program: (for graduating high school seniors entering UH Mānoa in the Fall 2026)
Freshman Bridge
Dates: 2026-2027 academic year and Summer 2027

June 2026: Application opens
August 2026: Bridge Orientation (prior to the start of the Fall semester)
Monthly Bridge Meet-ups during the Fall and Spring semesters
Formal STEM Research Experience in Summer 2027
Who: First-year students at UH Mānoa with the intention of majoring in the STEM fields; the following are encouraged to apply:
Strong interest in / connection to Hawaiian culture, values, and relationship to STEM;
Minimal STEM research experience, but highly motivated to learn; and
Ability to commit to program activities throughout the 2026-2027 academic year.
What: A dedicated cohort program for first-year STEM students during the academic year with foundations in cultural values, identity, and practices and will address the following areas of interest for first-year college students:
Greater preparation for college success (identifying resources and opportunities);
Comfort within a large university system;
Build an academic community of peers, faculty & staff, and professionals!
Students will participate in monthly Meet-Ups during the fall and spring semesters (get-togethers to include a mix of professional development & cultural engagement opportunities, advising, and pilina building), hear from upper-level undergraduate & graduate students, meet STEM professionals, and prepare for a Summer 2027 STEM research experience.
