NHSEMP Freshman Bridge
2026-27 NHSEMP Freshman Bridge is a year-long cohort experience for students at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Traditional first-year STEM students will build skills for college & career success with foundations in cultural values, identity, and practices. Students will participate in Monthly Meet-Ups, professional development & cultural engagement opportunities, peer advising & mentorship, pilina building activities, and prepare for a Summer 2027 STEM faculty-driven research experience.
The following students are encouraged to apply:
Strong interest in / connection to Hawaiian culture, values, and relationship to STEM;
Minimal STEM research experience, but highly motivated to learn; and
Ability to commit to program activities throughout the 2026-2027 academic year.
Program Dates: Fall 2026 & Spring 2027 semesters (cohort experience); Summer 2027 (research experience)
Application Deadline: September 1, 2026 (by 11:59 PM, HST)
Spaces are available for traditional UH Mānoa first-year students interested in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
Student Eligibility:
Designated major is in the STEM fields;
Full-time undergraduate status (minimum 12 credits); and
Designated home campus is the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (as indicated on your MyUH profile).
The following are encouraged to apply:
Students with a strong interest in / connection to Hawaiian culture, values, and relationship to STEM
Students who are enthusiastic about advancing Native Hawaiian places of learning
Minimal STEM research experience, but highly motivated to learn
Complete and submit your 2026-27 Freshman Bridge Application packet by the stated deadline:

Site visits and STEM activities
STEM faculty-driven research experience at UH Mānoa (Summer 2027)
Design and deliver a formal research presentation for the annual NHSEMP Summer Symposium (July/August 2027)
Upon successful completion during Fall & Spring semesters, participants will be eligible for an educational stipend.
