The use of ProctorU is OPTIONAL and should never be made mandatory.
Should you choose to offer ProctorU as an option for your students, you should always inform students that they can still take proctored online tests free of charge at the UH Testing Centers. It is also important to provide detailed information about this option in your course syllabus, since there is a cost involved. See the Syllabus Statement page for a sample "blurb."
Here are several things you should consider before making ProctorU an option for your students:
When creating exams, carefully consider the length and number of exams that require a proctor. Although students will continue to have the option to test for free at the UH testing centers. Students who choose to use ProctorU are charged fees based on the time limit for each exam.
Flex Scheduling - Appointment made at least 72 hours before the desired start time. Fees are based on the exam length (time limit):
30 minutes or less = $8.75
31-60 minutes = $17.50
61-120 minutes = $25.00
121-180 minutes = $33.75
181 minutes or more = $42.50
Premium Fees -
Scheduling or rescheduling your exam less than 72 hours in advance will incur an additional $5 premium scheduling fee on top of the regular exam fee.
Scheduling or rescheduling your exam less than 2 hours in advance will incur an additional $8 premium scheduling fee on top of the regular exam fee.
Fee schedule reconfirmed September 2023.
Submit the test to ProctorU as far in advance of the exam period as possible. (ProctorU recommends 3 weeks in advance.) Students will not be able to schedule a time slot for exams through ProctorU until the exam information is made available...which could affect their fees.
Include clear and complete info in your syllabus. Make it clear to students when the exam will be available and how much time it will take. See Syllabus Statement page for sample language.
Use the Web Content Tool to create a link to the ProctorU for Students web page (https://sites.google.com/a/hawaii.edu/itso-1/information-for-students) in the Laulima tool menu. You may also want to add the link to your course syllabus.
Check to make sure your time limits/passwords are set correctly in Laulima.
Accommodations are available for students with disabilities. ProctorU does not charge for additional time needed to complete exams. Please work with ProctorU to make arrangements.
To get started, you'll need to create an instructor account with ProctorU. Make sure to use your hawaii.edu email to create this account. (If you also take classes and will use ProctorU as a student to take tests, you'll need to create a second, student account using a personal email address).
Once you have created your account you'll be contacted by a ProctorU representative who can show you how to submit your test info.
