TK has learned the letter names and sounds for m, a, t, d, o, c, g, i, n, h, s, z, f, v, p, and e. We are going to practice these letters and sounds for a few days, before moving on to the last set of letters. I am looking for automaticity in letter sounds, letter names, and letter handwriting. We will practice reading, writing, and spelling words using these letters. We will also practice reading and writing tricky words. Tricky words do not follow the rules of English. Some of the letters in tricky words do make their original sounds, but other letters change their sounds due to meaning and deep language history. The tricky words we have learned, so far, are one, two, three, the, and a. We underline the tricky parts in these words and write them on yellow cards to remind us to read with caution.
TK has moved into the plant unit. We are learning the four plant parts. We are studying sunflowers. One of our vocabulary words is sow. We act out vocabulary words to help us make meaning stick.
In math, we just finished unit 3. We are moving into unit 4, understanding addition and subtraction. The goals of the unit are:
Understand addition as putting together and subtraction as taking from.
Represent and solve Add To, Result Unknown and Take From, Result Unknown story problems within 10.
Find the value of addition and subtraction expressions within 10.
Relate addition and subtraction expressions to story problems.
2nd quarter is coming to an end. Grades are due when we come back from break.
TK will have a Christmas Party on December 23. It is an early out day. Students will play games, eat, drink, and open gifts from me. No need to bring gifts for students.
