TK has learned the letter names and sounds for m, a, t, d, o, c, g, i, n, h, s, z, f, v, p, e, b, l, r, u, w, and j. This week we will learn y, x, and k. I am still looking for automaticity in letter sounds, letter names (both uppercase and lowercase), and letter handwriting. We continue to practice reading, writing, and spelling words using these letters. We will also continue to practice reading and writing tricky words. Tricky words do not follow the rules of English. Some of the letters in tricky words do make their original sounds, but other letters change their sounds due to meaning and deep language history. The tricky words we have learned, so far, are one, two, three, the, a, and blue. Coming up are the words yellow and look. We underline the tricky parts in these words and write them on yellow cards to remind us to read these words with caution.
TK will soon finish their plant unit of study. We learned the four plant parts. We are showing how plants grow by sequencing picture cards, as well as dictating plant growth. Our next unit of study is Animal Habitats. The habitats we will cover are the woodlands, farm, ocean, desert, and pond.
In math, we are still engaging in unit 4, understanding addition and subtraction. The goals of the unit are:
Understand addition as putting together and subtraction as taking from.
Represent and solve Add To, Result Unknown, and Take From, Result Unknown story problems within 10.
Find the value of addition and subtraction expressions within 10.
Relate addition and subtraction expressions to story problems.
If you have any questions about your child’s report card, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. Everyone is growing! All grow at different rates.
Please remember to send your child’s regular shoes with them to school. Boots are for outside and gym shoes are for the gym.
Also, remember to send hats and gloves for recesses, as the first recess is chilly. Thank you.
