Hanover High School
Summer Reading 2010
The Hanover High School English Department has chosen The Book Thief by Markus Zusak as the shared summer reading selection for this year.
When school begins after summer vacation, you will write an in-class essay in your English class. The English Department suggests that you mark or record interesting passages as you read The Book Thief, so you can refresh your memory about important ideas and examples before writing the essay.
Because The Book Thief is longer than other summer reading selections, you do not have to read a second book. However, we certainly encourage reading as much as possible during July and August. If you’d like some suggestions about what else to read, check with your teachers, librarians, parents, and friends. Please note that the selection for Hanover's “Everyone is Reading” for fall 2010 is Tracy Kidder’s new book, Strength in What Remains.
The Dartmouth Bookstore is giving all Hanover High School students and staff 30% off the title The Book Thief, and Norwich Bookstore is offering a 25% discount. For all those with a Borders Rewards Card, discount coupons are available online.
Have a wonderful summer, and we look forward to exchanging ideas about The Book Thief this fall.
Sincerely,
Hanover High School English Department
