It's been a challenging start to the 2016 season.... The toughest part of our schedule is behind us so we will hopefully match up well with our upcoming opponents and get some W's in the win Column.
Hang in there girls. Keep working hard! Coach Carney and Coach Lawless
Hanover Volleyball Season Expectations/Responsibilities
1) As a HHS Volleyball Student Athlete, you are making a commitment for the season, beginning the first day of preseason through the postseason play (second week in November). This includes not only
scheduled games and practices, but weekends as well.
Player Responsibility - Attend all practices and games; plan family time before and after the season begins (family vacations, college visits). Make Volleyball a priority and be an advocate for the program by being part of the family discussion when plans are being made. Players are expected to check in with Coaches before finalizing plans.
Parent Understanding - Although every effort is made to get team events on the season calendar, much of the off court planning (the fun stuff enjoyed as a team) is done and planned by your daughters on a weekly basis -fundraisers, team dinners, team events such as attending HHS sports events as a team, attending a Dartmouth or UNH match as a team, team planning for Community Service game, senior night, etc. All these things happen on various weekends during the season. There is no policy in the Athletic or Academic handbook that prevents us from planning team events on the long holiday weekends but every effort is made to prevent that from happening. Unless there are exceptional circumstances we are not allowed to plan anything on Sundays and usually do not plan for Monday of a holiday weekend. Saturdays are allowed every weekend to plan team events.
In the final analysis family is first, and if the player needs to be involved in the family event, please give coaches notice well ahead of time.
2) Team Captains are the point persons, an extension of the coaches on both JV and Varsity teams. Anything players want to see happen or plan during the season must go through the captains, who then bring it to the coaches. Anything on behalf of Hanover Volleyball, team dinners, team clothing, team gatherings, fundraising, MUST BE PRE-APPROVED BY COACH CARNEY!
Player Responsibility- Be good communicators to coaches (captains included) and parents! Ask Coach Carney before you confirm or take action on any plans!
Parent Understanding- Privately funded t-shirts; casual player gatherings hosted in your home; spirit building exercises and dress-up themes need coach approval. Players are representatives of Hanover High School and need to conduct themselves and convey messages in a manner consistent with school policies and expectations.
3) Adults must be present at all team gatherings hosted at a house. Alcohol should not be present at any team functions.
Student Responsibility - All infractions will result in suspension from the team as per policies listed in the HHS Student Athlete Handbook.
Parent Understanding - No alcohol for adults at team gatherings and host adults must always be present.
A last word to parents:
Trust the coaches; be flexible; trust your daughters to be responsible student athletes; let them own this volleyball program. If you have questions, direct them to your daughters who will communicate to their coaches and should get the answer. If it is time sensitive or an emergency, please call Coach Carney-
Cell- 603-733-6083. Thank you for entrusting your daughters to us. Thank you for all that you do to support HHS Volleyball.
JV vs. Varsity: Players' Experience
I would like to touch on parent/player expectations regarding the JV and Varsity teams throughout the season. Junior Varsity is about player development. You can expect your daughters on the JV team to get playing time in every game, most of the time. There are exceptions when the game is close and Coach keeps the working line up to try and get the win. On Varsity, the players have to work their way onto the floor. The goal is to get the best line up on the floor, putting the team in the best position to be successful and win matches. Though winning is not the only measure of a success, it is certainly the goal we set for ourselves by playing a competitive game of volleyball. Every effort will be made to get players in the game but there are no guarantees.
