License renewal takes place every 5 years.
The renewal process can begin as early as January of the year that your license will expire.
Each license holder will need the following in order to renew:
a. 180 points
b. Technology Standards for Instructional Personnel (TSIPs) (only need to complete this one time)
c. Child Abuse Recognition and Identification (only need to do this one time)
d. CPR/AED and First Aid
e. Online Civics Module (For license holders with social studies endorsements listed HERE only): Online Civics Module
f. Dyslexia training
For your convenience, HCS tracks the license renewal points for all our educators who receive a license through the VDOE. When you complete the license renewal process, we will submit a summary of your points to the VDOE so you don't have to.
If you attend PD through HCS, the facilitator of the event will report a summary of all participants and points earned, so you should not need to do anything (note: check your training record occasionally to make sure that all points have been reported and accurately).
If you attend PD outside of HCS, you will need to submit evidence of your attendance through the division's online PD database (PDB). Directions can be found here.
a. SBO form 183 completed (found on HCS databases)
b. Check or money order for $50 made payable to the Treasurer of VA
c. SBO form 184 completed Part I name and address only, Complete Parts II and III (found on HCS databases)
d. Send to Carlise Hopson, Human Resources
You will receive your new license in 3-6 weeks at the address you provided on SBO form 183.
Your most current points are available in our Professional Development Database (PDDB).
Please follow the directions here to check your PD record in the PDDB.
