Mr. Bergemann, Mr. B, Mr. Bergie, Coach,
I have had the privilege of teaching and coaching young people in the Hamilton School District for the past 37 years. Although my hairline and dance moves may reveal my age more than I care to admit, I can honestly say that I look forward to teaching each day and enjoy bringing the world of art to your children.
I believe my classroom to be a destination not just a room. I believe what I teach is of the utmost importance for the healthy development of a student who can think creatively, find multiple solutions to solve problems, and who views themselves as a person who will positively contribute to the world in which they live.
I want my students to dream big, really big, but understand that goals come true only with hard work, sacrifice and commitment. I want my students to have the ability to think for themselves, while understanding the importance of being a good teammate. I want my students to be proud while staying humble, to feel safe enough to cry, but laugh as much as possible each day. I hope my students display some grit while always showing kindness to those around them. As you can tell, I want a lot out of my students, but that’s because I really don’t view them as “my students” … I view them as my kids. These things are not just words to me. I believe them. I try to display these beliefs and I work hard to instill them in my kids. As the responsibility and expectation handout I give to my students the first day we meat says, “Three messages I will always tell you are THIS IS IMPORTANT! I BELIEVE IN YOU!, and I WILL NOT GIVE UP ON YOU.
I live in Sussex with my daughter, Neva. My other daughter(Elizabeth) and her husband Ben, are teachers in Houston, TX. I just retired from coaching football at Hamilton High school after 32 years of service. I am a working artist, specializing in portrait and landscape commissions. When not drawing, painting I enjoy fishing and bicycle riding.
