NHS Selection

Membership in National Honor Society is one of the highest honors bestowed by Galena High School. In addition to recognition of outstanding academics, the goal of National Honor Society is to create enthusiasm for scholarship; to stimulate a desire to render service; to promote leadership; and to develop character in the students of secondary schools. Only students who have demonstrated excellence in all four areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character are admitted.

Selection to the National Honor Society is a privilege, not a right, and is open to those students who have attend Galena High School equivalent of one semester (excluding all freshmen) and maintained a grade point average of at least 3.5. Membership is granted only to students whose completed candidate forms are reviewed and selected by the Faculty Senate. The school’s selection process seeks to be fair, non-discriminatory, and consistently applied.
