Trouble Shooting for Chromebooks

Getting Into IXL Directions

Open google Chrome

Go to Gateway’s website

Scroll All the way down toward bottom of webpage

Click on the blue IXL Link

Click on the grey box to continue (toward bottom)

IXL Sign In page (DO NOT USE A USER NAME OR PASSWORD)

Click on the blue Google Box to sign in

IXL home page.

Wireless not working

1. Fully shutdown device. PRESS and HOLD power button until device is OFF. Turn device back on.

2. Click on the WiFi icon in the lower right corner and try to manually connect to your network.

We are connected to the wifi but we are not able to access the internet. Everything is “blocked”

1. Click on the blue and black padlock icon on the screen. You will be prompted to put in your Greenville County School username and password. This should “authenticate” your chromebook and allow you to connect to the internet.

2. If this does not work you may need to check your wireless connection

Fingerpad is not working

1.This is a frequent problem and is caused by a loose connection inside the chromebook. If you have a mouse you can plug it in and it should work fine.

2. If you are not able to get a mouse,then the chromebook will need to be repaired.

My screen has black spots on it, especially around the edges.

OR

My screen has lines all over it.

1. Your screen is cracked and will need to be replaced by a GCSD tech.

2. If the crack is not bad , you can still use the chromebook . When or if it gets worse it will need to be replaced by a GCSD tech.

App Icons are missing

1. Make sure the device has been Enterprise Enrolled. If you see the words “browse as a guest” at the top of the login screen, the device has NOT been enrolled.

2. The chromebook will need to enrolled by a GCSC tech

My password won’t work

1. Try again!! It is really easy to hit the wrong key by mistake.

2.Double check your username - did you use the correct letters and numbers

3. After you have tried each of these things, if it still won’t work then email your teacher.

Chromebook will not turn on

1. Try plugging it in for about 10 minutes and then holding the power button down for about 10 seconds. This is similar to turning on your iPhone after you have turned it completely off.

2. If this doesn’t work then the chromebook will need to be repaired by a GCSD tech

Keyboard is typing incorrect characters

1. Make sure that the keyboard is set to US LAYOUT. When a user is logged in, in the lower right corner of the screen you should see an abbreviation for the current layout (US, INTL, etc). If a user has changed this, change it back to US.

2. If this doesn’t work then the chromebook will need to be repaired by a GCSD tech.

Unwanted settings or features have been enabled

(Large print; keyboard showing on screen; text in a different language , background is black, circle around cursor…)

1. Make sure ACCESSIBILITY OPTIONS have not been changed. When a user is logged in, In the lower right corner of the screen you should see an icon of a person. Click to show all features and toggle them on and off accordingly.

2. Check for Chrome Extensions that have been installed. Open Chrome. Go to Settings. Click on Extensions.

LCD screen is extremely dim

1. Check for physical or water damage.

2. Slowly open and close the LCD lid a few times. This can sometimes detect a loose display cable. This will require repair by a GCSD tech.

Will not charge

1. Make sure CORRECT AC adapter is plugged in and working.

2. If Chromebook turns on while plugged in, hover over the battery icon in the lower right corner. If it displays 1% and is NOT CHARGING, this could be an indication of a bad battery or system board.
