Capturing Kids' Hearts

We have been working hard on building relationships and a classroom community. We have started a new program which encourages students to self monitor their behavior. Take a look at our Social Contract hanging in our room! 

The Four Questions are:

What are you doing?

What are you supposed to be doing?

Are you doing it?

What are you going to do about it?

If a student continues to break the contract, the teacher will ask the four questions again and add a fifth question.  

What is going to happen if you break our Social Contract again?

Consequence System

The fifth question leads students to the consequences of breaking the Social Contract.  The consequences are as follows:

1. Everyone starts here.

2. Think Time – Students are provided an opportunity to reflect upon their behavior and discuss with the teacher.  

3. Behave Out & Parent Contact- Students are provided an opportunity to reset outside the classroom environment.  This may be time in another classroom, a walk with an administrator, a visit to the school counselor, etc.  If a student receives a “Behave Out”, a parent will be notified by the teacher.

4. Removal from Class- If a student is removed from class, he/she will receive a disciplinary referral.  An administrator will conference with the student and contact the parent.
