ACCESS student guide

Before ACCESS testing begins, students log in to the same system they'll be using for the exam to pre-test their Chromebooks and ensure that all the equipment they'll need for the exam works. This process took two-and-a-half weeks to complete due to the large number of students being tested at Lakeview. In order to maximize the chances of our students' ability to perform well on the exam, I used this time to provide a quick overview of the test and give students advice on how to prepare for the exams. Students were given a study guide (table of contents is displayed here), offered additional study materials upon request, and were signed into a Google Classroom for extra online practice.

After comparing the initial tier placement results from 2018 to 2019, this approach seems to have had an impact. Of the lowest performing students in 2018 who also took the exam at Lakeview Middle in 2019, 86% made gains. 49% made such significant gains that it's reasonable to believe that they may have gained a full level on a scale of 1-6.
