Parent Info / Syllabus

Dear Parents,

I am so pleased that we will be educational partners. Elementary School is an exciting time in your child's life. This is where we lay the foundation for the future. As we work together this year we will see so many wonderful changes in your child both socially and academically.

The education of your child is one that I hope to share with you and your child's regular classroom teacher. If I can be of any help to you, please do not hesitate to contact me so that we may schedule a conference. I am looking forward to working with you and your child during the upcoming school year.

ESOL Program Long Range Plan

August and September

Students' current levels of English proficiency will be evaluated. Parents will receive a notice regarding this level, the type of ESOL services students will be receiving and the modifications that will be available in the regular classroom.

September through January

Students at all levels of English proficiency will work to increase their language skills in the areas of Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. The ESOL teacher works closely with classroom teachers to ensure the success of ELLs (English Language Learners) in all subject areas. Accommodations are made to make all content accessible to students.

February

All ELLs will participate in ACCESS testing to determine their current levels in the area of Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing, as well as their growth in these areas since the previous year. Scores are reported to schools in late May. Students who show proficiency in all four areas will "exit", or graduate from, the ESOL program.

March through May

ESOL students and their teachers will continue to work towards English proficiency as well as success in all content areas.
