CCES Counseling Department Mission Statement:

The mission of the Chandler Creek Elementary School Counseling Program is to implement a comprehensive and developmentally appropriate data driven program that fosters student empowerment.  In addition to building essential relationships with students and developing an engaging needs based curriculum, the program is centered on raising student achievement, introducing knowledge of career pathways, and ingraining interpersonal skills in our students.

CCES Counseling Department Vision Statement

The Vision of the Chandler Creek Elementary School Counseling program is that all students will be empowered with a growth mindset that emphasizes the opportunities education can provide, allowing them to reach their highest potential for academic, career, and personal success. Chandler Creek Elementary School students will grow to be independent, productive, self-supporting members of society.

School Counselors are an important part of the Elementary School Setting.  Students must be socially and emotionally well in order to be successful academically.  The School Counselors offer many different services that collaborate with classroom teachers, parents, and administrators to help students be successful.    We follow the American School Counselor Association's (ASCA) model when developing the Chandler Creek Elementary School Counseling Program.

Guidance Curriculum

The counseling curriculum is based on the ASCA standards. We also use information from needs-based assessments given to the teachers and students.  The ASCA standards are included at the bottom of this page.

Responsive Services

Students might need a little more attention from the a counselor in addition to the classroom lessons.  Students can be referred to a school counselor for a variety of reasons that include going through a divorce, friendship issues, death of a loved one (pets included), school anxiety, behavior issues, etc.

Please feel free to contact Mrs. Holtzclaw or Mrs. Hooker here at CCES if you feel your child needs services.  School Counselors are not therapists and will refer parents to different resources if a child needs that type of service.

Individual Planning

Part of a School Counselor's job is to help prepare students for the future.  Our 5th grade students will be registering for Middle School in the Spring and Mrs. Hooker will head up the registration for them. She will prepare teachers with information on how they should recommend students for classes and teach students information related to the electives they can choose from.

Career lessons and Career Inventories are also delivered throughout the year to all students to introduce them to different careers that are available and have them start thinking about their future!

System Support

You may see either of the school counselor's performing a variety of duties throughout the year.  Facilitating small groups, preparing awards day ceremonies, teaching parent in-services, attending school meetings, etc. are all duties that fall under the umbrella of a school counselor.

ASCA Standards

In order to better serve students and help them find success, school counselors follow the American School Counselors Association's (ASCA) standards for Mindsets and Behaviors. These standards guide us as we develop our classroom lessons, plan small groups, and engage with students individually. The standards are listed below.
