Guidance Curriculum includes structured experiences presented systematically through classroom and group activities from prekindergarten through graduation. The purpose of the guidance curriculum component is to help all students develop transferable skills relative to their educational, career, personal, and social development.
In Texas, four strategic curricular content areas have been identified for the guidance curriculum:
• Intrapersonal Effectiveness
• Interpersonal Effectiveness
• Post-Secondary Education and Career Readiness
• Personal Health and Safety
The classroom-based lessons and activities are designed to strengthen students’ social-emotional skills, such as managing strong emotions, setting and working toward goals, building friendships, having empathy for others, and solving conflicts with peers.
